Beware Of Dodgy Credit Repair Companies

While it might seem like an easy fix, if you find yourself being approached by credit repair companies, or you see adverts for those services, make sure you stay away.

The fact of the matter is that dealing with these debt service providers can actually make things very difficult for you in the long run. If you happen to inquire about using a specific provider and they want you to pay a fee upfront, or they want you to pay for a phone call to a premium number, then you don't want to be near them. Turn around and run, because these people are only interested in taking money from you, and a genuine company interested in helping knows that people do not have the money right then to pay for outrageous fees or phone bills. The fact is that those credit repair companies are actually covers for lenders and finance brokers that really just want to sell you a loan. There are ways to actually help improve your credit without actually having to pay someone to help.

If there is a company that wants to help you clean up the history you have or fix your credit rating, make sure that you are wary about the business, given that any premium phone numbers that they want you to call or upfront fee proposals should be red flags. You don't need their help, as you can actually do it without one of these companies.

First of all, you need to understand that there is no service that will erase the records of debt on your credit file. It just will not happen, and while you can ask that there be a note placed on your file, nothing will ever get removed. The credit repair companies that you often hear about actually have nothing new that they can offer you. You can do everything they say they will do, alone. For example, a county court judgement will not get pulled from your credit file by anyone unless these judgements were incorrectly granted or discharged. Just because you claim and cannot prove that you were unable to make it to court or there was no correct procedure, it will not be sufficient to make a court remove the judgement. You need to take the responsible route and look at your files, requesting the corrections you need if things are wrong.

There are several different places you can go to help yourself manage your credit, and the best way to do it is to make sure you get a copy of your credit file from Equifax or Experian . That way, you can check for errors and you are allowed to dispute information. While you might not be able to prove it, at the least you can put a note on the file that explains your reasonings for why you believe it to be incorrect. You need to be aware that regardless of what help you look for, though, you will not be able to take the history of a debt you once owed off of your records. Even if you pay your debt , the record of the debt and the payment will still stay on your records, and that will not get removed.
